This is a free ArchiCAD’s (ver. 18) GDL object, to assist you in the making of detail drawings that may include CMUs (concrete/ cinder masonry blocks/units).

This 2D library object is highly parametric, and can only be controlled from the Custom Settings menu in the Object Tool, so the explanation about the way to use it will be  accompanied with graphical examples.

In the Custom Settings, you will find that there are seven parameters’ groups (or less), containing a number of sub-parameters that govern the object’s behavior (some of the groups will disappear from the Custom Menu depending on the sub-parameters you have chosen). The seven parameters groups (with their sub-parameters) are:

– Dimensions
To control the CMU’s unit size

– Details

– Elevation Type

– Show Rear Details
It’s a parameter to show or to hide the fills that lies under the CMU object in plan, as being shown in the next drawing.

– Elevation View Type

– Masonry Unit LOD (Masonry Unit Level of Detail)
Basically, it’s to control the amount of details shown by the object.

– Masonry Unit Type

-Stretcher’s Length
To specify the unit’s stretcher’s length (it will not increase the CMU’s length specified in the Dimensions parameters group).

– Stretcher’s Thickness
To specify the unit’s stretchers thickness.

– Stretcher’s Radius
To specify the fillet radius between the CMU’s stretcher and web (this parameter is only be visible when Masonry Unit LOD = Extra Detailed).

– Details (Cores)
This group parameter will only be visible, if the Masonry Unit Type is Hollow or Hollow (Corner).

-Shell Thickness
To specify the unit’s shell’s thickness.

– Web Thickness
To specify the unit’s web’s thickness.

– Table Thickness
To specify the unit’s table’s thickness.

– Number of Horizontal Cores
To specify the number of the unit’s horizontal cores (measured in the plan view). The minimum is one horizontal core.

– Number of Vertical Cores
To specify the number of the unit’s vertical cores (measured in the plan view). The minimum is one horizontal core.

– Cores’ Radius
To specify the fillet radius between the unit’s web, shell and table (this parameter is only be visible when Masonry Unit LOD = Extra Detailed).

The rest of the group parameters and their sub-parameters are made using the same criteria that was used by Graphisoft in the library objects that it ships with ArchiCAD.

  1. Hey, theres a lot of work under this library… Great work. I’m working on Revit families and it’s very similar…do you use Revit?

    1. Yes I do, but it’s not a library (a group of objects), it’s only one object, with alot of posibilities that can generate 2D CMU details, in plan, section and elevation, to be used in ArchiCAD.
